Senator Curtis’s Provo Office
3601 North University Avenue, Provo, Utah, 84604
Dear Senator Curtis:
We observe with increasing alarm the many threats to democracy in the United States, stemming from governmental action and inaction. These include:
The President’s concerted and continued attempt to wrongly reverse his election loss in 2020, thwarted only by a particular Vice President and by a startled and frightened Congress;
The eroded independence of our national legislature and judiciary;
Legislative efforts like the SAVE act that disenfranchise voters, especially those who are homebound and women who changed their name in marriage.
Absolute loyalty by hundreds of Executive Branch leaders to the President, instead of loyalty to the Constitution, who demonstrate little regard for legislative and judicial checks;
Eroded state-level rights on one hand and on the other, eroded support of international law, trade, norms, and relationships;
Efforts to gerrymander the legislature against the express interest of voters.
Eroded independence of business, non-governmental, educational, and even religious institutions;
The construction, growth and domestic deployment of a standing army loyal to the President, and not to the rule of law;
The President’s strategy to govern by ever-increasing crises, many of his own making.
With this evidence and experience in mind, we therefore call on you to:
Publish your intention to encourage, support, and abide by free and fair elections, in accordance with Federal, State, and Local law.
Individually develop and publish your plan, should free and fair elections be disrupted, for ensuring ensuring such elections occur and to support the seating of elected officials.
Work with other members of Congress to publish a plan to stand against disruptions and threats against free and fair elections and any refusal to seat elected officials.
Please consider our non-violent, non-disruptive visits to your office as indicators of our support for this request.
