Senator Curtis’s Provo Office

3601 North University Avenue, Provo, Utah, 84604

Dear Senator Curtis:

We observe with increasing alarm the many threats to democracy in the United States, stemming from governmental action and inaction.  These include:

  • The President’s concerted and continued attempt to wrongly reverse his election loss in 2020, thwarted only by a particular Vice President and by a startled and frightened Congress;

  • The eroded independence of our national legislature and judiciary;

  • Legislative efforts like the SAVE act that disenfranchise voters, especially those who are homebound and women who changed their name in marriage.

  • Absolute loyalty by hundreds of Executive Branch leaders to the President, instead of loyalty to the Constitution, who demonstrate little regard for legislative and judicial checks;

  • Eroded state-level rights on one hand and on the other, eroded support of international law, trade, norms, and relationships;

  • Efforts to gerrymander the legislature against the express interest of voters.

  • Eroded independence of business, non-governmental, educational, and even religious institutions;

  • The construction, growth and domestic deployment of a standing army loyal to the President, and not to the rule of law;

  • The President’s strategy to govern by ever-increasing crises, many of his own making.

 With this evidence and experience in mind, we therefore call on you to:

  • Publish your intention to encourage, support, and abide by free and fair elections, in accordance with Federal, State, and Local law.

  • Individually develop and publish your plan, should free and fair elections be disrupted, for ensuring ensuring such elections occur and to support the seating of elected officials.

  • Work with other members of Congress to publish a plan to stand against disruptions and threats against free and fair elections and any refusal to seat elected officials.

Please consider our non-violent, non-disruptive visits to your office as indicators of our support for this request.

Express your support by taking a selfie at the Congressman’s Office (but follow directions below for greatest effect)

  • Before leaving home, scan the code to the left to access the picture wall.

  • Put on a yellow safety vest or other bright solid color over your clothes. You could write any specific message you want on the vest.

  • walk/run/bike/drive to Senator Curtis’s Office.  If you walk/run/bike on the path next to North University Ave, drivers will see the bright colors and potentially react.  They will also notice a concentration of bright colors and wonder why.

  • Upon arrival at the Congressman’s office, open your browser and take a picture of the building from the sidewalk, or of the nameplate by the building.

  • Choose whether to include your face or perhaps only other body parts in the picture.  Write a polite note if you want, or simply upload.

  • Walk a lap or two around the building if you’d like, making sure you stay on the footpaths, then go home.

  • Come as frequently as you like, especially in moments of high stress about elections.

You are Not Alone!
